The are many birds in Salornay, which prompted us to put up a feeder and offer bread and fruit. Unlike in Pretoria that didn’t work. According to the locals because Salornay is in a rural area and food is abundant.
Besides the pigeons and doves Salornay has a big flock of what we finally identified as Jackdaws.

In the evenings these congregate in their hundreds in trees behind the retirement home, near the church. During the day they move around the village in smaller groups, often feeding on the grass area in front of the house.

It is a pity that funding ended for GATE. Imagine almost all of the publications were thrown away the other day although they had produced some fine manuals in the past. So much about sustainability aka offering technical datasheets for free.
Hi JKE
Thanks for your feedback, I have now found that there is a new website (http://www.gate-international.org/) and that, to me, it looks like all the reports and manuals are there. There is also an organisation International Network on Technical Information (http://www.inti-online.org/) which seems to have be established to promote the sharing of this type of information by some 20 organisations
Since INTI’s site gives no useful contact information and online material is far from useful to a small processor in Africa, I am going to be following up on information dissemination with a contact.
